State of Maine Interfering with Law

Obey the Black Robes?

A former lawyer for O.J. Simpson and Patty Hearst has been denied the "privilege" of practicing law.  This decision was handed down by people calling themselves "Maine Supreme Court".

These "court" people seem to believe that they can deny another human being from practicing law.

Regardless of the edicts passed down from on high, the right of residents in Maine to voluntarily enter into contracts with lawyer F. Lee Bailey super cedes the "courts" ruling.

The Government wants you to believe in the myth that they are "Supreme" and they create "law".  In reality law existed long before any state and currently exists in spite of interference by the state.

From Don Boudreaux and Russ Roberts:
Legislation is consciously designed rules, enforced with threat of force.
Law is emergent patterns of behavior that is incorporated into people's expectations.
The bottom line is that Bailey or any of his potential clients have no obligation to obey the commands of those who wear black robes and sit on elevated benches.

Is Minimum Wage Legislation Moral?

There has been a lot of controversy over the new minimum wage legislation in Seattle, Washington.  Many non-union workers are unsure if their employers will be able to keep them at the higher legal minimum cost of $15 per hour.

Regarding minimum wage legislation, Don Boudreaux at Cafe Hayek asks a reader:
Suppose the president of the United States randomly chooses 500,000 of the lowest-skilled workers in America and, with Congressional and Court approval, orders these workers to quit their jobs.  “You must remain unemployed indefinitely,” the president commands these workers.
“My reason for ordering you to enter and to remain in the ranks of the unemployed is that, by removing you from the workforce and thereby artificially reducing the supply of labor, the wages of 16.5 million other low-skilled workers will rise.  So do not despair!  Your sacrifice is for the greater good.

Is Practicing Medicine a "Right"?

Don Boudreaux has written a great article at Cafe Hayek titled "Who Licenses the Licensers?".  One important quote in the piece:
People are not generally stupid when spending their own money on themselves and their loved ones.
The right to offer medicine and healing services is literally a matter of life and death.  The state simply wants to promote that it is a privilege to practice medicine.

These propagandists are incorrect.  Doctors and nurses don't need to ask an agent of the state for permission to offer healthcare services to consenting adults.
