Humpday Humor: Defending The Heartland

People all over the world have been trained by religious political leaders to be scared of immigrants.  Xenophobia is especially powerful among U.S. Americans, like Sean Hannity.

CJ Werleman pokes fun at Twenty-First Century Fox's version of "Defending The Heartland"...

A "60 Million Channel TV", Predicted in 1996

Many people independent of the "mass media" are often way ahead of their time.  In the year 2000 we heard warnings from Harry Browne about potential terrorist attacks in the U.S. and the government reading our emails.

On the communications front, nearly two decades ago Terence McKenna was already thinking of the internet as a "60 million channel TV":

Bristol, Connecticut is a small town located 103 miles north of New York City.  It is known mostly for being the home of the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, a.k.a. ESPN.

The popular media outlet is owned by The Walt Disney Company which also controls ABC News.

In Those Guys Have All the Fun: Inside the World of ESPN James Andrew Miller and Tom Shales published the highlights of their five hundred interviews with people at the sports network.*

Chapter six delves into the events at ESPN in the days after the 9/11 attacks in New York and D.C.  One comment here jumps right off the page.

"They Hate Democracy" so said Bill Clinton

After sending 75 tomahawk cruise missiles in the general direction of Afghanistan and Sudan, Mr. Clinton said this about Osama bin Laden and the "terrorists"....

Mr. Clinton neglected to mention the "terrorists" clearly stated reasons for their hatred towards the U.S.  These include quotes from bin Laden himself which outline his 3 major grievances towards America:

1. "The ordinary man knows that [Saudi Arabia] is the largest oil producer in the world, yet at the same time he is suffering from taxes and bad services.  Now the people understand...that our country has become an American colony.  They act decisively with every action to kick the Americans out of Saudi Arabia

2. "The evidence overwhelmingly shows America and Israel killing the weaker men, women and children in the Muslim world and elsewhere.  A few examples of this are seen in the recent Qana massacre in Lebanon..."

3. "...and the death of more than 600,000 Iraqi children because of the shortage of food and medicine which resulted from the boycotts and sanctions against the Muslim Iraqi people"

Humpday Humor: The "Illusion of Choice" by George Carlin

Ten years ago George Carlin sat down with Alan Colmes to discuss voting, the U.S. war of terror and the "illusion of choice".

Colmes was selling the idea that once Democrats were elected to the White House the occupation of Iraq would come to an end.  We are still waiting for John Kerry to come out in strong opposition to the bombing of Iraq.

As you see in this short clip Carlin already knew that Fox News was on the side of the political propagandists....

Alternative Media Is Working

In this clip Angela Davis talks about a major U.S. export which gets almost no attention by outcast media outlets like The New York Times or FOX News.  She calls this censored export the U.S. model of mass incarceration.

You may have guessed what Davis was referring to based on the first paragraph of this post.  If so then you are certainly aware of the alternative media.  If after watching the video you are saying "oh yeah, I already knew that" then great!  You are not alone.

Based on audience reaction at Riverside Church in New York there are many, many people aware of the largest open-air prison on earth.

Not only do they know this prison exists but they also have an understanding of which government ensures that the inmates are kept caged in far behind the fence.

The rousing support for her comments are proof that alternative media is working.

Humpday Humor: "Government-Friendly" Media

The New York Times reports that El Impulso, Venezuela's oldest newspaper, is closing it's doors after 110 years in circulation.

Their take on media in the South American country:

..."the share of independent media has fallen, with opaque or government-friendly buyers taking over outlets and softening their editorial line."
Is this unintended or just subtle humor printed in the NYT?

Humpday Humor: Political Bribes are Illegal?

News is coming out of South Carolina that politicians have been accepting bribes.

The AP reports that sheriff James Metts "allowed friends to buy favors".  They further report that someone else by the name of Bill Nettles is really upset about this situation and is "charging" Metts with "bribery".

Do you think Mr. Nettles realizes that what he calls "campaign contributions" are in reality the sale of favors.  Consistency calls for bribery charges to be brought against thousands of politicians in North America.

Don't hold your breath.

U.S. & Iranian Interests Aligned Against the Taliban?

Interesting news item about the origins of the Taliban and their relationship with Iran and Pakistan, from CNN 1998:

Pakistan was the first of only three countries to recognize the Taliban government, and as many as 40 percent of the militia members studied in religious schools in Pakistan.

This would have been good to know when planning retaliation for the bombing of the USS Cole or the 9/11 attacks.  Do you think that Mr. Clinton or Mr. Bush read this story?  Could any of their dozens of advisers mention to them that the Taliban is largely composed of people from Pakistan?

On another note, it seems critical to understand that the Taliban and Iran were involved in a mini-war with each other.

from PBS, 1998

We were told that the U.S. bombed Afghanistan in the hope of killing bin Laden after his gang bombed U.S. embassies in Africa in 1998.  Would it not have been useful for 500,000 Iranian military members to help the U.S. government fight their war against the Taliban in Afghanistan?

Mr. Clinton, Mr. Bush & Mr. Blair had the chance to gain assistance from a powerful enemy of the Taliban and chose to go it alone instead.  Why did they turn against a potential partner in Iran and create further division between the Middle-East and the West?

Only a few people truly know the reasons for these actions.  Unfortunately, they are probably not going to let us in on the secret, leaving us to speculate about their behavior.

Fair Reporting by the AP on Israel/Palestine?

Israeli soldiers detaining Palestinian children
in the West Bank (2012)

Eleven days into Israel's most recent invasion of Gaza the AP reports that one Israeli soldier has been killed.  He was likely gunned down by friendly fire.  Details can be found in the "The Big Story".

The same story provides the reader with the number of Palestinians killed by the hands of Israel....
...a conflict that has already seen more than 274 Palestinians killed in Gaza, around a fifth of them children.

So if you are scoring at home this "conflict" is 274-to-1.

In a 2012 school shooting in Connecticut the score was 26-to-1.  Would anyone have called what that shooter did to those poor people a "conflict"?

History Did Not Begin Yesterday: The Iraq Cover-Up

John Pilger wrote "Iraq: the great cover-up" published in January of 2001 by the New Statesman.  Pilger highlighted the devastating effects of the decade long sanctions against Iraq imposed by the U.S. and Britain:

The word "genocide" has been used by experts on international law and other cautious voices, such as Denis Halliday, the former assistant secretary general of the United Nations, who resigned as the UN's senior humanitarian official in Iraq, and Hans von Sponeck, his successor, who also resigned in protest. Each had 34 years at the UN and were acclaimed in their field; their resignations, along with the head of the World Food Programme in Baghdad, were unprecedented.

That's right, during the Clinton/Blair years two senior United Nations officials resigned in protest of the sanctions which crippled the people of Iraq.  The hundred's of thousand's of deaths caused by the western powers were explained away by current Georgetown University professor Ms. Madeleine Albright on CBS 60 Minutes.

Contrary to what the outcast media wants you to believe about Iraq, history did not begin yesterday.

Misleading Headline of the Week

Today's headline from the AP:

U.S. Ends Philippines Anti-Terror Force

But the 15th paragraph of this very story reads:

The U.S. and the Philippines, which are defense treaty allies, signed a 10-year pact in April that will allow possibly thousands of American forces temporary access to selected Filipino military camps and enable them to preposition fighter jets and ships.

So the U.S. is ending a task force in the Philippines while simultaneously planning a decade long stay.  Washington's primary goal appears to be surrounding China with weapons of mass destruction.

Leave it to the outcast media to distort news to this extreme.
