What Checks & Balances "The Deep State"?

Peter Dale Scott has coined the term "Deep Politics" to describe the hidden features of the government.  He describes his concept of The Deep State in this video:

The war on drugs benefits the public state and deep state.

The public state of Drug Enforcement Agency, local police & prison guard employees can grow their sphere of influence thanks to "legal" civil rights violations including home invasions and imprisonment of people who grow or trade plants.

Can Math Solve the Nursing Shortage?

A survey published by UNISON reports that 2/3 of nurses working at the National Health Service in England do not have enough time with their patients.  With half of NHS nurses taking care of 8 patients per day it's clear they are overworked and understaffed.

One nurse commented:
“My department is running at VERY UNSAFE levels due to inadequate staffing.”
The major theme coming out of the survey is that demand for nursing services outstrips the supply of nurses.

In response to this nursing shortage, union boss Gail Adams pleaded:
"The Coalition Government needs to face up to the damage it is inflicting on patients and staff, by not introducing legally enforceable nurse to patient ratios, and take urgent action.”
A legal dictate which increases the nurse to patient ratio would reduce the workload of existing nurses.  But this is a local solution to a global problem.

Adams is totally ignoring both halves of the real issue which is that supply of nursing services is not keeping pace with patient demand.  Basic math tells us that to create a balance there needs to be an increase in nursing services, a decrease in patient demand or a combination of the two.

My proposal?  Anyone in England who wants to offer nursing services should not be interfered with by the state.  Anyone in England who wishes to contract for nursing services should be free to do so.

Finally, a voluntary-market for healthcare services makes politicians, NHS and taxes redundant.

A Revolution in Education

Teachers Pay Teachers is an online marketplace for educators to share their materials.  Over 2.6 million people have registered with TpT to buy and sell resources.

It seems, finally, that teachers can be rewarded for their skills and efforts by serving a market need for high quality educational materials.

ReasonTV highlighted success stories of this peer-to-peer economy in a recent episode....

Want More Jobs? Repeal Minimum Wage Statutes

The Swiss Alps Photograph by James P. Blair/National Geographic Society

Earlier this week 76% of Swiss voters opposed a nationwide minimum wage.  The proposal from union employees called for a 22 franc (nearly $25 US) mandatory hourly wage.

The vote displays the people's overwhelming support for unskilled and unemployed workers.  The primary reason that Switzerland has just a 3% unemployment rate is because employers are not limited to only employing workers who produce above an arbitrary line of value.

Thanks to the voters Swiss people are still free to negotiate employment contracts privately without interference from the state.  Employers are free to higher anyone they choose regardless of skill level.

Economy minister Johann Schneider-Ammann summarized the election outcome by saying:
"If the initiative had been accepted, it would have led to workplace losses, especially in rural areas where less qualified people have a harder time finding jobs," he said. "The best remedy against poverty is work."

Kids Short Recess Made Even Shorter

A former 15-minute break for recess will be eliminated for students in twelve British Columbia school districts.
“The school districts that have cancelled recess have done so because it is inconvenient to principals and management staff."

Humpday Humor: Political Ad Real or Fake?

Take a minute to view the following ad, then ask yourself if this is real or a production for SNL?

This ad is appears to actually be running on television screens in Pennsylvania.  The employees of the PA state run, monopoly liquor stores are using mothers and children as props to maintain their privileged status.

Of course a little fear about dead kids always helps the propagandists agenda too.

Question for Unions about the Minimum Wage

Joe Hansen, president of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union has come out in support of a "living wage" for "all Americans".  He pinpointed $10.10 in exchange for one hour of labor as a definition of "living wage".

Question for Mr. Hansen.  If an unemployed American food worker is unable to obtain work in today's $7.25 minimum wage environment how will she obtain work in the economy of the $10.10 mandated wage?

A $25 Minimum Wage?

The Swiss people will vote next month on a measure to increase the minimum wage in Switzerland to 22 francs/hour (~$25 US).  Of course the trade unions are chief lobbyists for the higher minimum wage.  These legal statutes backed by threat of violence ensures that cheaper labor is literally unemployable leaving current job holders with less competition.

As the overall pool of employable labor decreases total human production also falls.  This leaves everyone with fewer choices of goods and services (essentially creating more poor people).  Taken to the extreme if the minimum wage was 100 francs per hour would total production of goods in Switzerland increase or decrease?

In response to the proposal George Sheldon, professor of economics at the University of Basel said:
“Unemployment among the unskilled is increasing,”...“The solution to their problem can’t be to make them more expensive.”
Sheldon is inquiring about the plight of the currently unemployed.  These folks are simply ignored by the supporters of minimum wage statutes.
